Christopher Jon Bauer, 42, of Lincoln, NE died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis, IN after a long courageous battle with cancer. His family was at his side. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Melvin and Clarice Bauer. Christopher is survived by his parents Ron and Vicki (Weaver) Bauer of Ord,NE (formerly of Culbertson,NE) his brother Michael and wife Elizabeth of Sioux Falls, SD and his sister, Lisa Bauer Shadley and husband Aaron of Omaha, fianc Kris Pensick of Lincoln, his nieces and nephews Samuel Bauer, Julia Bauer, Maxwell Bauer, Anna Bauer and Mason Shadley, grandparents Don and Norma Sitzman of Culbertson, numerous aunts and uncles, cousins and many, many friends. Christopher Jon Bauer was born July 4, 1972 to Ron and Vicki (Weaver) Bauer at McCook, NE. He grew up and attended school at Culbertson and graduated from Culbertson High School in 1990. He attended Colby Community College, Colby, KS and then went on to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Resources and then his Masters Degree in Agronomy. Christopher loved all sports, but had a passion for baseball. He started with T-ball and played for his home town Culbertson through the years, then for McCook Legion Baseball. He played baseball at Colby Community College and then went on to play for the Huskers at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Chris made many great friendships through his journey. Christopher loved the outdoors. He had a passion for hunting and fishing. Chris loved the family farm and spent hours and hours just being there. He found great peace in nature. He was also an avid photographer just "shooting nature". Chris was a member and great supporter of Pheasants Forever and Ducks Unlimited. Christopher was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson where he was also baptized and confirmed. Christopher was married to Stephanie Christiansen with the marriage ending several years later. He worked for the USDA while in college and stayed with them after graduating until he made a move to Palo Alto, CA in 2012, but his love for Nebraska brought him home. Chris continued to play baseball and softball, while running, biking and golfing. He thoroughly enjoyed life in whatever he did. Christopher completed his life through his engagement to Kris Pensick of Lincoln, who was his best friend and love of his life along with his little dog Buster, and his canary "Fuzz". Chris will be remembered for his smile, his kindness and love and concern for others. Christopher requested to be cremated. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 23, 2014 at 10:30 am at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with Rev. John Lewis officiating. Memorial may be left in Chris' name at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, NE. Friewnd's may sign a register book at the Funeral Chapel on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 Am till 5:30 PM
