Charles R. Johnson

Charles Chuck R. Johnson of Stratton, NE passed away at the Sarah Ann Hester Home in Benkelman, NE. He was 84 years old. Chuck was born on May 23, 1931 at Britton, SD to parents, Charles F. and Ada (Witham) Johnson. Shortly after his high school graduation he entered the US Navy and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 29, 1955. On August 8, 1951 he was united in marriage to Joyce Joan Voels at Sioux Falls, SD. To this union three children were born. For Chuck and Joyce Johnson, everything started and ended with each other! Chuck worked as a lineman and later a supervisor for the telephone company until his retirement. They moved to the Stratton community in 1995. Chuck was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, and woodworking. Preceding him in death were his wife, Joyce Johnson on September 12, 2015; his parents, Charles and Ada Johnson; siblings Clinton Johnson, Robert Bob Johnson, and Mildred Freeman. Survivors include his children Brett Johnson of Stratton, NE, Stephen Johnson and wife, Lenay, of Gothenburg, NE and Nancy and husband, Dallas Hall, of Denver, CO; five grandchildren Jesse, Travis, Julie, Corie, and Jason and four great-grandchildren with one on the way. Memorials may be given in his name and sent to Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, 607 Norris, Ave., McCook, NE 69001 A graveside Memorial Service will be held at Fort McPherson at a later time. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is in charge of the arrangements.
