Charles Allen Gufford

CAMBRIDGE-- Charles A. Gufford Jr., 80, died on Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Hospice House in Omaha.

He was born in Mayport, FL on May 31, 1934 to Charles Allen and Cecelie Rose Lee (Moore) Gufford . He grew up in Florida and California; graduating from San Diego High School in 1952. Following high school, he joined the United States Air Force on June 27, 1952, which he proudly served until September 1, 1972 when he retired as Chief Master Sargent.

He married Joan L. (Sexton) Gufford on Oct. 31, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. His time in the U.S. Air Force took them around the world including stops in Guam, Thailand and Travis Air Force Base, where son, Steve, was born and March Air Force Base in California, where son, Michael, was born. After his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, they returned to Cambridge. There he worked for the Twin Valley Public Power District for almost 20 years before retiring in 1991.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and CeCe; one sister, Betty; his beloved wife and life-long partner, Joan; and his son, Michael (Mike) Gufford.

Survivors include one son, Steve Gufford and wife, Judy, of Beatrice; daughter in law, Lori Gufford (Mike), of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Christopher Gufford and wife, Tara, of Omaha, Kevin Gufford and wife, Tish, of Omaha, Justin Gufford and wife, Brandi, of Lincoln, Dawn Gufford of Savannah, GA, and Brandon Gufford and wife, Kelly, of Otis Orchards, WA; and five great granddaughters, Aiden and Graesyn (Christopher), Zoe (Kevin), and Bronwyn and Eveinstyn (Justin).

Chuck truly lived life to the fullest; laughing, enjoying, and loving his family. Chuck engaged everyone around him with his contagious energy and adventurous spirit; whether he was traveling the country with his camper in tow, flying to weddings and graduations around the world, making Husker tailgates and games a fall weekend ritual or spending time laughing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 10:30 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church in Cambridge with the Rev. Jeff Wulf officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Cambridge.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
