After a long, courageous battle with Parkinsons, Carol Ann Liess, age 79, of McCook Nebraska, passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family and husband Gene. Carol was born on April 8, 1943, in McCook, to Victor and Leoma (Tomlin) Blackman. She attended school in Indianola and graduated from Indianola High school in 1961. On June 2, 1962, Carol was united in marriage to Gene Liess. To this union they were blessed with five children. The couple celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June. Carol was a member of the St. Patricks Catholic Church and Altar Society. She was employed by Southwest Nebraska Physical Therapy as a physical therapy aide. She volunteered at Bargain Bazaar, and was always ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends on cruises to Alaska, Mexico, and throughout the western United States. Carol enjoyed camping and fishing, sewing, golfing, and playing cards. Her heart was happiest when she was surrounded by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Leoma; brother, Bob Blackman; sister, Virginia Liess Blackman; nephews, Greg and Kevin Blackman; sister-in-law, Mary Cox; and brother-in-law, Ron Cox. Carol is survived by her husband, Gene of McCook; son, Paul (Lauri) Liess of Lexington; four daughters: Christine (Dave) Carfield of McCook; Pamela (Ryan) Reese of Arapahoe; Cherri Liess (Special friend Craig Jumps) of McCook and Jill (Brad) DeMoss of Waverly, Nebraska; 18 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Danny) Blackman of Bartley, NE; Terry (Beth) Blackman of Lincoln, NE; brother Gene (Lillian) Blackman of Palisade, CO; brother-in-law, Gale (Claudia) Liess of Bartley; and sister-in-law: Belinda Blackman of Lincoln. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 8th, at the Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook, NE at 10:00 AM. Family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 PM, with the Holy Rosary to follow starting at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at St Patrick's Catholic Church in McCook on Friday September 9, 2022 starting at 10:00AM with Father Bernard Kimminau and Father Dale Alder officiating. Interment will be in the St. Catherine's Cemetery in Indianola, NE. In Lieu of Flowers the family has asked that Memorials be addressed to either the St Patrick's School in McCook or St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
