Bruce Melvin Bortner, age 57, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Mary Lanning Hospital in Hastings, NE. Bruce was the son of Melvin Harold and Barbara R. (Schlecht) Bortner born in McCook, NE on December 24, 1958. Bruce graduated Medicine Valley High School in 1977. He then continued his education at Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis. He was married to Karen Meguire May 1st 1981. To this union three sons were born. Bruce worked with tires for the majority of his life, selling them throughout Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming. He was a life-long member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was an avid Husker football fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Preceding him in death were his parents, Melvin and Barbara Bortner. He is survived by one sister, Cindy Ruffner, of Bellevue, NE; and three sons, James (Leigh) Bortner of Grand Ridge, IL, Ryan Bortner and Matthew (Jessica) Bortner all of North Platte, NE. Memorials may be given in his name. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 10th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones funeral chapel in McCook, NE. They family will be present from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. to greet friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11th, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook, NE with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel of McCook is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation
