Beverley Kaye Smith

Beverley "Brown" Smith 12/19/1948 - 1/12/17 Beverley "Brown" Smith of Cambridge, NE passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha at the age of 68. She was born in Denver, CO on December 19, 1948, and was adopted at 9 days old by John and Lola Trina Brown, and later gained a stepmom, Hazel Brown. Bev attended school in Yuma and Wray, CO and graduated in 1966. She married Philip Cruse on November 8, 1966. To this union three children were born. She then married Doug Smith on November 22, 1975, in Benkelman, NE and later moved to McCook. In 1979 the family moved and made their home in Cambridge, NE and, later, raised their granddaughter. Bev enjoyed working in her costume shop, being known as "The Costume Lady." She loved to sew and go to garage sales with her great-granddaughter. Bev was also well known for her tax services and sewing services. She was actively involved in the community. For over 20 years she volunteered for Domestic Abuse and Sexual Assault Services, and had previously served a long term as secretary of the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce. She was actively involved in NORML Nebraska and was always passionate about music and the arts in schools. Bev was preceded in death by her parents; her granddaughter Lavinda Sayer; and a great granddaughter, Cerezza Garcia. She is survived by her husband, Doug Smith of Cambridge; her three children Tamice (David) Lewis of Belgrade, NE, Philip Cruse Jr. of Grand Island, NE, and John Smith of McCook, NE, and a Granddaughter, Kaye T. (Tyler) Bieck of McCook, Along with 8 other grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and extended family. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Monday, January 16, 2017 at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.herrmannfh.com Funeral services will be held at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Memorial Park cemetery.
