Bettye Anne Stewart, of McCook, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2018 at Bryan LGH East in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was 90 years old. Bettye was born on February 7, 1928, in Wellington, CO. Bettye was adopted as an infant by Morgan S. and Florence A. (Murphy) Solace in Windsor, CO. The family moved to Palisade in Bettyes early childhood. She graduated from Palisade High School in 1946. While in high school she met William Arthur "Bill" Stewart and they married June 27, 1947. Bill and Bettye lived in Palisade one year then moved to Alliance to start a family. They raised five sons, all born in Alliance, Michael, Randy, Bob, Chuck, and Dennis. The family eventually moved to McCook where they raised their family and made McCook their home for the past 50 some years. Besides being a busy mother and homemaker Bettye worked at A&W Drive Inn and the West Sale Barn Caf of which she managed. From there she worked at Macs Drive Inn for 37 years retiring at the age of 80 in 2008. Bettye was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Her love of McCook Bison Friday night football put her on the bleachers at the home games as long as she could drive, thru many cold Nebraska nights. As long as she could get a ride she would be one of the biggest fans sitting in the bleachers. She also loved the Denver Broncos and was an avid fan of NFL/AFL games. Through her years of married life with Bill, and his involvement at the "Toy Box" the Stewart yard was lit up like the North Pole, as long as they were able to decorate. Proceeding her in death was her husband, Bill Stewart on December 6, 2016; her parents, Florence and Morgan Solace and step-father, Bob Carter. Florence Solace and Bob Carter married very late in life after Bettyes marriage to Bill; her four sons, Randy, Chuck, Bob and Dennis; and sister-in-law, Phyllis Meyers. Survivors include her oldest son, Mike and wife, Tonya, of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Jason, Jennifer, Rachel, Sheree, Robbie, MG, and Joshua; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Linda Stewart of Lincoln, Janet McKillip of Hayes Center, and Ardith Hopper of Huntsville, AK; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. Memorials may be given in her name to Memorial United Methodist Church or the "Toy Box" both of McCook. The family will honor Bettyes wishes for cremation. There will be no visitation.
