Bettie Lee (Clasby) Fidler of McCook passed away peacefully Wednesday February 24th at Hillcrest Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was 85 years old. Bettie was born on April 14, 1930 at Mankato, Kansas to parents, Otis LaVerne and Norma Sadie (Behlke) Clasby. As a young child the family moved to Benkelman and later settled in McCook. While in high school, Bettie worked at the Fox Theatre and Woolworth and was a former Miss McCook. Bettie graduated from McCook High School with the class of 1948. On June 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Neal Roderick Fidler at Peace Lutheran Church in McCook. To this union three children were born. They made their home in McCook where Bettie worked for various community businesses. Bettie was able to combine her love of children with her work while working as secretary at the YMCA and then as secretary for Student Services at McCook Community College, retiring from the college in 1988. Bettie became a Communicate member of Peace Lutheran Church after going through confirmation and Holy Baptism on May 15, 1949. She served as a past member on the Board of Evangelism and also taught Sunday School. While her children were young Bettie volunteered her time as a leader for their Girl Scout, Boy Scout, and 4-H groups. She loved the outdoors and cherished the camping and fishing trips with her family. Betties other hobbies in her younger years included her bowling league, league volleyball, and archery of which she was the recipient of the Robin Hood Award. She loved children of all ages including the students she met while working at the college, many of which she still kept in contact with. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she loved following them in all their activities. Preceding her in death were her parents, Otis and Norma Clasby; her beloved husband, Neal Fidler; step-father, Reuben Fahrenbruch; and son-in-law, Bradley King. Survivors include her children, Dr. Jeff L. Fidler and his wife, Dr. Mary of Rochester, MN, Vicki King of Grand Island, and Cathy and husband, Tom Broz, of McCook; brother, Otis Clasby and wife, Mary, of Austin, MN; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Memorials may be given in her name. Visitation will be Friday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel, with the family present from 4- 6. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.herrmannfh.com Funeral services will be Saturday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Albertson officiating.
