Bette (Cone) Martin, daughter of James and Mildred Cone, was born June 16, 1942. Bette attended various schools growing up and graduated with the Shenandoah High School Class of 1960 in Shenandoah, IA. On February 27, 1965, she married Richard Martin at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island, NE. They have lived on a farm west of Wilsonville, Nebraska for the past 49 years. Bette passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 6, 2014 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in Cambridge, NE.
Bette loved to spend quality time with family and friends. She enjoyed learning and earned an AA Degree from McCook Community College. Bette continued her education and studied Business Administration at the University of NE at Kearney. She also combined her love of flying with photography by taking aerial farm photos in Kansas. Other hobbies included cooking, reading, knitting, and sewing dresses for underprivileged girls in Africa and Mexico. Family and friends describe Bette as a kind, generous, and loving person.
Bette was preceded in death by James R. and Mildred W. Cone (parents), James Leroy Cone (brother), and James August Martin (son).
Survivors include: husband, Richard Martin from Wilsonville, NE; daughter, Suzanne Martin from Colorado Springs, CO; son, daughter-in-law and grandson, Andrew, Kellie and Robert (Gus) Martin from El Paso, TX; sister, Mary Stewart from Council Bluffs, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Donita Cone from Cedar Rapids, IA; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert Guzman from Robins, IA; Martin family brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, numerous nephews and nieces, and other relatives and friends.
The Rosary Service was held at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge, NE at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014. The funeral is at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at St. Johns Catholic Church in Cambridge, NE. Burial will follow the funeral at the Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, NE. Visitation was available Thursday, July 10, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until after the Rosary Service.
Memorial contributions can be made to Compassion International for Water of Life, Wounded Warrior Project or Butler Memorial Library in Cambridge, NE.
