Bernard Wickizer

Bernard Wickizer, age 83, of Cambridge passed away at the Cambridge Manor on Friday, May 5, 2017. He was born in Max, Nebraska on March 16, 1934 to Clarence and Ruth (Clements) Wickizer. Bernard attended School in Max.

Bernard went to work for the Burlington Northern Railroad in his early teens, working up from a track crew to a conductor/brakeman. His job took him and his family from McCook, Denver, Brush, CO and finally back to Cambridge, NE. Bernard retired from Burlington Northern Railroad after 45 years of employment in 1996.

On October 26, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley Lamb. The couple was married 62 years. Bernard enjoyed many things. He collected coins, rebuilt old tractors, tried water skiing even though he could not swim, and tried snow skiing for the first time at age 50. He was part setting the world record for the most tractors in the Worlds Largest Parade of Classic Tractors at the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island in 2012. Most of all Bernard loved his family and his grandkids. The family would take yearly vacations; one of their favorites to Ft. Robinson.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lloyd; sister, Sally Jenkins; grandson, Chet Wickizer; daughter-in-law, Donna Wickizer; 2 brothers-in-laws, Ellis Wilkinson and Willie Gardner; and a sister-in-law, Janet Wickizer.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Cambridge; 1 daughter, Jeanette Jamison of Parker, CO; 3 sons, Clinton of Cambridge, Clay "Tater" and wife, Cynthia, of Wallace; and Thomas of Lincoln; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 sisters: Leta Gardner of Lake Balboa, CA; Dorothy and husband, Earl Gummere, of Stratton, NE; Nedra Wilkinson of Ravenna, NE; 2 brothers: Archie and wife, Arlene Wickizer, of Lincoln, NE; Rod and wife, Delores Wickizer, of Colfax, WA; Glen "Budji" Wickizer of Newark, CA; and sister-in-law, Marjorie Wickizer, of Lewiston, ID.

Rosary will be recited at 10:00 AM at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 11, 2017 with Father Greg Powloski officiating. Interment will be in the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, from 10:00 AM till 7:00 PM. Friends may leave on-line condolences at lockenour.com. Memorials may be left in Bernard's name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.
