Barbara Jean Baker

Barbara Jean Baker of North Platte, formerly of McCook, passed away Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at Great Plains Health Hospital, North Platte. She was 71 years old. Barbara was born on November 10, 1947, at McCook to parents Raleigh Floyd and Phyllis Marie (Stewart) Myers. She graduated from Palisade High School with the class of 1966. On September 10, 1966, Barbara was united in marriage to Harold "Gene" Baker. The couple was blessed with five children. Because Gene made a career in the Air Force for some 22 years, the family moved frequently to wherever he was stationed including here in the states as well as abroad. They eventually made their home in McCook for several years before moving to North Platte. Barbara was a busy mother and homemaker as well as taking care of foster children. Her love for children was exemplified by either spending time with her own children, her foster children, or babysitting. She loved making Christmas candies, tending to her flowers, and crocheting afghans. Even when she was afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis her strength and perseverance never faltered. She found comfort from her pain by spending time with her family and her pets. Preceding her in death were her parents, Raleigh and Phyllis Myers. She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Gene Baker of North Platte; daughter, Tami and husband, Danny Kofler, of McCook; sons, Tye and husband, Mike Clark, of Indianapolis, IN, Todd Baker and wife, Nikki, of Prattville, AL, Tracy Baker and Ronda Krutsinger, of Benkelman, and Tildon Baker and wife, Marion, of Sutherland; brother, Richard Myers and wife, Carlene, of Morse Bluff, NE; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; numerous family and a host of family and friends. Memorials may be given in her name to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Visitation will be Monday, February 4, 2019, from 10:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. The family will be present from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. to greet friends. Friends may go online at www.herrmannfh.com to extend words of comfort to the family. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, February 5, 2019, 11:00 a.m. at the Palisade United Methodist Church with Rev. Elias Mukindia officiating. Burial will follow in the Palisade Cemetery.
