Amelia Joan Brown

Amelia Joan "Amy" Brown, 80 of Cambridge, Nebraska went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Amy was born on June 26, 1933 to Amos and Johanna (Kamminga) Roetman at the farm in Boyden, Iowa where she grew up. She graduated from Boyden High School in 1950, then attended Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, where she was home coming Queen. She graduated with a degree in K-8 Education.

Amy married Stanly Sorensen on June 26, 1952, her 19th birthday. Together they had three beautiful daughters: Susan, Kristine and Barbara. After Stanleys passing in 1958, Amelia attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, where she met Wilford V. "Bill" Brown at the local Dairy Queen. After meeting her three cute girls, Bill and Amy fell in love and married on October 14, 1961. Together they added two more beautiful girls: Valerie and Wendy.

Amy was a teacher from the day she graduated from Northwestern until she the day she died! She taught in Boyden, IA, Fort Yates, ND; Tecumseh, NE; Elwood, NE then finished her career in Cambridge. Amy taught 2nd grade, 6th grade, Jr. High Social Studies and Science and K-12 art. She retired from Cambridge after 34 years of teaching.

Amy was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Cambridge, yet played the organ at the UCC First Congregational Church for many years. She always felt the love of both church families.

Amy was preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Stanley and Bill and a sister: Trudy Feenstra. She is survived bye her 5 daughters: Susie and husband Doug Huxoll of Cambridge; Kris and husband Wayne Nelson of McCook, NE; Barb and husband Rod Walter of Hospers, IA; Val and husband Mike Pohlman of Brady and Wendy Brown of North Platte, NE; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at the UCC First Congregational Church in Cambridge on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. with Bill Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery of Cambridge, NE. Visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge. Memorials may be left in Amys name to the Cambridge Schools Art Club.
