Albert 'Loyd' Christner

Albert Loyd Christner, age 86, of Wauneta, passed away Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. Loyd was born on March 22, 1935 to Oscar and Evalyn (Hahn) Christner in Hamlet, Nebraska. He attended High Ridge Grade School and Hayes Center High School, graduating with the class of 1952. Loyd was inducted into the United States Army on August 6, 1957. He served in the infantry and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal for his service. Loyd was honorably discharged in February of 1959. He would continue to support and serve veterans for the rest of his life, holding many offices in the VFW and serving as the State Commander of AMVETS. On July 2, 1960, Loyd married Karen Kay Nordhausen at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The couple made Wauneta their lifelong home where they farmed and raised cattle. Loyd enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He was also an active volunteer in his community; working the firework stand was just one of the many services he enjoyed being a part of. Loyd was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Karen of Wauneta; daughter, Rene (Joe) Maris of rural Wauneta; son, Curtis (Deana) Christner of Brighton, Colorado; daughter, Renelle (Barry) Mooney of McCook; grandchildren: Jayden (Ashli) Maris, Randi (Lincoln) Hunter, Jonee (Brady) Chilewski, Veronica (Michael) Jackson, Stefanie (Andy) Watkins, Courtney Christner, Connor Christner (fianc, Mariya), Rylee Mooney, Blayzon Mooney, and Ryker Mooney; great-grandchildren: Kobe, Braxton, Gavyn, and Anna Maris; Chaynee and Nixyn Hunter; Charlee and Brix Chilewski; Savannah Jackson; Nathan, and Andrea Watkins; brother, Bernard (Peggy) Christner; sister Wanda Novacek; brother, Robert (Barbara) Christner; and numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. (MT), Wednesday morning, June 2, 2021 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Rural Wauneta with Pastor Keith Wellman officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. CT, Thursday afternoon, June 3, 2021 at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell Nebraska. Memorials will be given to the Wauneta Senior Center and to local veteran's causes. Online condolences may be left at herrmannfh.com. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
